Learning Community Contributions on Slides (8x25 = 200 points in total)

To interact with the course content on a deeper level and to take charge of your own learning while contributing to a class learning community, you will add new insights to course conversations by exploring specific concepts/ideas related to several new topics.  During the course of the semester, specific weeks will be marked when you will be asked to select a concept/idea from the assigned reading, find an additional online article about this subject, and summarize what you learned from your exploration on shared Google Slides.

Description

During the course of the semester, specific weeks will be marked when everyone in the class will be asked to select a concept/idea from the assigned reading, find an additional online article about this subject, and summarize what you learned from your exploration on shared Google Slides. These slides then will be used to facilitate discussions of course topics and will allow you to share the additional information you learned about these topics with your classmates. There is a wealth of valuable information about our course topics online, and exploring and sharing other resources that connect to our topic will allow us to build a practitioner learning community while enabling you to take charge of your learning.

Requirements for Learning Community Contributions

Specific weeks that require a Learning Community Contribution will be marked by listing the link to slides for that week where you can add your 2 slides containing your contribution. (See these Sample Learning Community Slides for an example).

The following elements need to be incorporated into your contribution:

Slide #1

  • Title of selected resource with embedded URL
  • Summary of your selected resource (write a paragraph)
  • List of keywords from your selected resource (add 5-8 keywords that highlight the topics within this resource)
  • Explanation of relevance: (write a paragraph while answering the questions: how does this concept relate to our course topic? why is this concept important for content strategy/websites?)

Slide #2

  • A visual image/screenshot that demonstrates some key points from the resource
  • An explanation of the visual highlighting how it shows what you learned from your resource
Because all details cannot be added to two slides about an additional resource/article you explored on the topic, be ready to explain what you learned to your classmates and me during our class meeting.

Evaluation of Learning Community Contributions

Your learning contribution slides will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Start with a detailed description of the selected concept/idea
  • Incorporate an insightful explanation of the context and relevance of this concept that shows your understanding of the assigned readings and correctly uses terminology
  • Provide an effective summary of the additional resource you found with an embedded link to the resource
  • Include a screenshot of online content that exemplifies what you learned from the additional resource.

You will receive a cumulative point value for all your contributions through the semester. To receive an A for this assignment, all contribution slides need to fulfill the above criteria and should be submitted on time before the start of class on each due date.
